The production of the new high-capacity trains for Renfe Cercanías and Rodalies has reached an important milestone. During the night of February 12th to 13th, tests of the 452 series, manufactured by Alstom, began at the RFIG(Red Ferroviaria de Interés General).
In an exclusive block, the 452-001 ran its first kilometres outside the Alstom facilities in Santa Perpetua. It did so on line 276 (L’Hospitalet – Barcelona – Mataró – Maçanet-Massanes).
This marks the start of the approval process before the ERA, through the EASA, which will certify the correct operation of the train, its compatibility with the infrastructure and compliance with the TSI (Technical Specifications for Interoperability).
This was the same unit presented on 10 January at the manufacturer’s plant. It is part of the first three pre-series trains, whose homologation will mark the start of production of the remaining 198 trains.
The trains of the 452 series are part of the order for high-capacity trains to renew and expand the fleet of Cercanías and Rodalies trains. All the trains in this series are 100 m long.
