Siemens Mobility has announced the completion of a major investment at its Cornellà factory, Spain. As a result, the plant has significantly expanded its production capacity and product portfolio. This investment includes the creation of a new gearbox production line and the creation of a welding competence centre for converter cabinets.
“The decision to invest in this new manufacturing line aligns with our vision for the future and our commitment to quality and innovation in the rail sector,” said Albrecht Neumann, CEO of Rolling Stock at Siemens Mobility.
In May, the Cornellà factory started production of its first gearboxes on the new production line. During the first phase, the new line will focus exclusively on manufacturing heavy-duty transmissions, such as those for locomotives, starting with those built by Siemens Mobility.
Installing the new production line required the conversion of a separate manufacturing hall and an increase in the company’s workforce. The project is part of Siemens Mobility’s global growth strategy and will further enhance local value creation in the Iberian market.
Siemens Mobility’s new welding competence centre at the Cornellà factory turns one year old
Siemens Mobility began establishing a welding competence centre for converter cabinets a year ago and now employs more than 80 experts. Once production is fully up and running, the company aims to consolidate its position as a leading competence centre for manufacturing converter cabinets.
With its state-of-the-art factories and a product portfolio closely aligned with customers and the market, Siemens Mobility manufactures products both for its own vehicle business and for other rail vehicle manufacturers worldwide.
Siemens Mobility’s Cornellà factory has been in operation for 114 years and employs 320 people. It is one of the leading suppliers of traction motors, converters and converter cabinets for trains and locomotives for its own and other manufacturers.
