Metro de Madrid has awarded dMol (DEMOLICIÓN Y DESCONTAMINACIÓN, S.L) a €2.61 million contract to scrap 373 cars from the 2000 and 5000 series, along with auxiliary vehicles.
This operation aims to dispose of disused rolling stock currently occupying tracks needed for the 80 new trains acquired from CAF (40 wide-gauge for Line 6 and 40 narrow-gauge for Line 1).
Scrapping of 134 cars from Series 2000
The first contract involves scrapping 67 units from the 2000 series for €862,446.41 for 30 months.
According to Metro de Madrid, these correspond to the 1st batch (4 cars), 2nd batch (50 carriages), 3rd batch (56 cars), 4th batch (20 cars), and 8th batch (2 cars).
They are distributed among the Aluche, Canillejas, Cuatro Vientos, Hortaleza, and Valdecarros depots.
Although the last two carriages entered service in 2005, they belong to an accident-damaged unit that has been out of service for years. The scrapping process includes the removal of obsolete equipment for reuse in trains that remain active.
Scrapping of 239 Carriages from Series 5000
dMol will also handle the scrapping of all decommissioned carriages from the 5000 series for €1,745,891.71 for 48 months.
The contract includes scrapping 89 carriages from the 5000-1st series, 130 carriages from the 5000-2nd series (the entirety of those manufactured), and 20 trailers from the 5000-3rd series. The contract also covers the scrapping of some auxiliary vehicles.
All the carriages are distributed among the depots of Canillejas, Cuatro Vientos, Laguna, Sacedal, and Puerta de Arganda. As with the 2000 series trains, obsolete equipment will be removed to serve as spare parts for the 5000-4th series trains that are still in service.
