The rolling stock manufacturers CAF and Stadler Rail are competing for the contract to supply the first seven trams of the TramCamp, the future tramway of Camp de Tarragona.
After the 2023 tender failed and was declared void due to non-compliance with requirements and prices, the Generalitat increased the investment to 73.2 million euros and introduced improvements in the conditions to attract manufacturers. Now, once again, the two manufacturers are bidding for the contract.
The vehicles will be up to 40 metres long, carry 210 people, have at least 50 seats and be fully accessible. They will have spaces for bicycles and pushchairs. They will incorporate batteries to run on sections without catenary and are scheduled to be delivered within a maximum of 33 months from the award of the contract.
The first section, 14 kilometres long between Cambrils Centre and Vila-seca Universitat, will take advantage of the old coastal railway line and will have nine stops. In parallel to the tender for the rolling stock, the tender for the infrastructure works is progressing, with a budget of 17.1 million euros and the participation of major construction companies.
The TramCamp will benefit 325,000 inhabitants and, once all phases are completed, is expected to exceed 12 million trips annually in 15 years.
