Transap acquires four C30ACi locomotives from Wabtec

.

Chilean freight operator Transap has placed an order for four C30ACi locomotives with Wabtec Corporation, marking a milestone in its fleet renewal initiative.

General Electric Transportation designed these AC diesel-electric locomotives before their sale to Wabtec and are the first of their kind in Transap’s fleet. They will be used to fulfil a long-term strategic contract with Arauco, one of the world’s largest forestry companies.

Eric Lobo, the operator’s CEO, highlighted the importance of this acquisition to meet the growing needs of its customers and the country.

The new locomotives will operate on EFE’s rail network, transporting Arauco’s cargo to key Chilean markets.

Danilo Miyasato, Wabtec’s President for Latin America, said the C30ACi is ideal for the region’s challenging rail network, offering low operating costs, high availability and proven reliability.

According to the manufacturer, these locomotives with AC technology can perform the work of two DC locomotives, maximising pulling capacity and improving efficiency.

Delivery of the locomotives is scheduled for 2026.
