Paris’s Gare du Nord, one of the busiest train stations in Europe, was paralysed on Friday after the discovery of an unexploded World War II bomb in the commune of Saint-Denis, near the tracks.
The device, weighing 500 kilos with 200 kilos of explosives, was found during night work 2.5 kilometres from the station.
All Eurostar trains to and from Paris have been cancelled, while TGV and other rail services have also been disrupted. Traffic is expected to be partially reactivated from 16:00 if safety conditions permit. Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot has asked travellers to postpone their journeys due to the disruptions.
As for the RER lines, the RER B is interrupted between Gare du Nord and La Plaine – Stade-de-France. The RER D line is interrupted in a longer section between Gare de Lyon and Stade France St-Denis dans.
Transilien lines K and H are disrupted between Gare de Lyon and Estade de France-Saint Denis. These lines, as well as RER lines B and D, are experiencing significant delays.
