Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has put out to tender, for 2.15 million euros, the drafting of track and platform remodelling projects at the stations of Alcalá de Henares, La Garena and Soto del Henares, to improve the Cercanías service in the Corredor del Henares.
The main new features include changing the direction of preferential circulation on the four tracks so that Civis trains will have a platform at all their stops. This will avoid track shearing and interference with Cercanías trains that stop at all stations.
In addition, a northern access will be created at Alcalá de Henares station, a historical demand of the city, facilitating the transit of passengers from that area and the new track 5 with a platform on the north side.
In Soto del Henares, a new platform will be built next to track 3, while in La Garena, a central platform will be created for the interior tracks. These actions are in addition to other improvements already underway in the Corridor, such as the renewal of signalling and electrification, and form part of the Madrid Suburban Train Plan.
