Spain’s Minister for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, and the Basque Government’s Minister for Sustainable Mobility, Susana García Chueca, visited the construction work on the new North Station in San Sebastián (Atotxa). A renovation in which 93 million euros are being invested.
According to the announcement, the station is expected to be fully operational in 2026, thanks to the collaboration between the central and Basque governments.
During their visit, they highlighted that the renovated station will be the first in the Basque Country to receive a high-speed railway, which is expected to arrive by 2030. The central government has invested 4.9 billion euros to bring the high-speed train to Irun, a budget that could increase to 9 billion euros.
On Monday, February 17, Atotxa station will resume service along Paseo de Francia Street, allowing passengers to access trains via the historic terminus. For this purpose, train traffic will be interrupted from tonight until Monday and replaced by an alternative bus service.
