Stadler has been selected to supply signalling technology for the upcoming expansion of the Bergen Light Railway (known as Bybanen), Norway, after winning a public tender.
The contract, valued at around €50 million, includes the planning, delivery and implementation of signalling systems for future extensions to the suburbs of Åsane and Loddefjord. Initially, the agreement covers the first phase to Åsane, with extension options for additional phases.
Stadler’s solution comprises signalling and train protection systems, vehicle identification, switch heaters and a fully equipped control centre, all to the highest safety standards (SIL 2 and SIL 4 components). The company manufactures most of the components at its Braunschweig site and the project is scheduled to start on 1 September 2025.
Stadler has been a key partner of the Bergen tramway since 2007, providing vehicles and signalling technology in earlier phases.
“The award of this contract not only confirms the high availability and reliability of our technology, but also highlights its scalability and future readiness,” said Albrecht Teich, Managing Director of Signage Germany.
