Siemens Mobility, along with the other companies in the Parklife Metro consortium, has unveiled a full-scale model of the new trains on the Sydney Metro—Western Sydney Airport line.
This prototype marks an important milestone in the project and provides a preview of the travel experience on the Greater Western Sydney Metro system. It will allow for extensive testing and customer feedback prior to the final production of the trains, ensuring that the design meets the intended specifications.
The interior design prioritises comfort and accessibility, with large windows, flexible seating and multi-functional wheelchair areas. The upholstery incorporates artwork that pays homage to the Cumberland Plain, with elements depicting the country, water and night sky.
This project involves the construction of a 23-kilometre-long line. Siemens Mobility’s share is valued at 900 million euros and includes the delivery of 12 driverless trains, digital infrastructure and a 15-year maintenance contract.
It is expected to generate 14,000 jobs during construction, boosting the economy of New South Wales and Australia.
