Siemens Mobility has received its first order for Vectron locomotives equipped with an innovative battery module. The Swiss JeMyn AG, a Widmer Rail Services AG subsidiary, has ordered two of these locomotives, which are scheduled for delivery in 2027.
Thanks to their high-voltage lithium-ion battery and intelligent management system, these electric locomotives can travel short distances without electrification and without generating Greenhouse Gas emissions.
This technology optimises manoeuvring operations and contributes significantly to reducing emissions and noise pollution.
The development of this functional package was funded as part of the federal programme “Future of Rail Freight”, which aims to accelerate the introduction of rail innovations that strengthen competitiveness and logistics capabilities.
Pierre Widmer, CEO of Widmer Rail Services AG, highlighted the efficiency this new acquisition will bring to their operational processes. At the same time, the CEO of Siemens Mobility’s rolling stock division, Andre Rodenbeck, emphasised how this technology will enable customers to cover all their operational routes electrically and with batteries, further reducing CO₂ emissions in rail transport.
