Óscar Puente announces the call for tenders for the first construction projects for the Seville-Huelva high-speed railway line

.

Spain’s Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has announced that the first five projects for constructing the high-speed line linking Huelva and Seville will soon be put out to tender.

This new infrastructure, part of the global TEN-T rail network, will cost 1,608 million euros and connect the two cities in just 25 minutes. The line will be 95 kilometres long and have an international gauge platform designed to reach speeds of up to 350 km/h.

The route will include more than 30 viaducts, an almost two-kilometre tunnel, and an intermediate station in La Palma del Condado. This project is part of a wider investment plan in the province of Huelva.

This announcement contrasts with Puente’s own statements in April 2024, when he announced that instead of the LAV (which he estimated at between 1.1 and 1.5 billion), a 45-km bypass would be built.

The Port of Huelva will also benefit from these investments. A 280 million euro plan for the period 2024-2028 seeks to boost its development as an energy and industrial cluster.

In addition, improvements are being made to the conventional network, and progress is being made in creating a rolling highway between the Port of Huelva and Madrid.
