Renfe’s 106 series (Talgo Avril) return to normal service

.

Talgo and Renfe have announced that the breakdown that caused all the 106 series trains to be rendered useless yesterday has been resolved, preventing them from running the 36 AVE and Avlo services they had scheduled.

Once the fault has been rectified, today the trains are running normally on the three corridors on which they provide service.

At 7:00 a.m. yesterday, a computer malfunction was detected which prevented the trains from operating. As reported by Talgo at midday, it was a communication problem between the system that controls the train (known as TCMS, developed by Talgo) and the system that charges the batteries (developed by Ingeteam).

According to the official sources, the problem was caused by the change of year. According to several unofficial sources, the origin could be the programming did not take into account that 2024 was a leap year.

To replace the trains that had to run yesterday, Renfe used other trainsets, including series 114 and 121, and resorted to alternative road transport.

All affected passengers are entitled to compensation, so this umpteenth failure further increases the economic damage that the Talgo Avril trains have caused to the public operator.
