Travelling with bicycles on Spanish railways is often a problem. Many services do not allow bicycles (even if the train has space for them), and sometimes, you have to pay a supplement.
As the president of Renfe announced on his X account, this is about to change. The company presided over by Álvaro Fernández Heredia is preparing to launch a train+bike ticket on 14 July, of which there are no details. Its launch will coincide with the change of summer fares.
In addition, as the photo in the publication shows, the doors closest to the bike racks will be identified on the trains.
Currently, bicycles can be carried on Cercanías trains free of charge and without disassembly. On conventional Media Distancia trains, one unmounted bicycle per person can be carried, paying a supplement of €3 for journeys of more than 100 km. However, on Larga Distancia, AVE, Avant and Avlo trains, only bicycles folded or disassembled and stored in a case are allowed.
Some of these conditions could change with measures, such as those announced today, to facilitate rail travel by bicycle.
