Spain’s Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has witnessed the breakthrough of the main railway access tunnel to the outer harbour of La Coruña in Punta Langosteira.
This 3.7 km tunnel represents 55% of the total length of the section that will connect the Outer Harbour with the Atlantic Axis. The branch, as we mentioned when the agreement for its execution was signed, will be 6.7 kilometres long.

Although this branch will be part of the RFIG, it will be owned by the APAC (Port Authority of A Coruña).
Puente stressed that the connection will boost port activity at the national and international levels. From 2027, Puente projects moving more than 600,000 tonnes per year by train.
The work results from an agreement between several governmental entities, and it was financed by EU Next Generation funds with an investment of 124.8 million euros.
The minister also announced plans to improve rail connectivity, including the possibility of a new terminal to serve the current traffic at the Coruña-San Diego freight terminal.
