EIA approved for the doubling of the Cullera-Gandia section of the river

.

Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has obtained a favourable Environmental Impact Assessment to double the Cullera-Gandia section of the line linking Silla with the popular coastal destination.

This step, essential for the project’s execution, is the last step before the definitive approval of the informative study that defines the duplication of 23 km of track between these two Valencian towns.

The project will cover the municipalities of Cullera, Tavernes de la Valldigna, Xeraco, Xeresa and Gandía. Its purpose is to increase the line’s capacity and improve rail services. The doubling will convert the current electrified single-track section into a double-track, preserving the Iberian gauge and exclusive passenger traffic.

This action is part of the objectives of the Indicative Railway Strategy, which promotes sustainable urban and metropolitan mobility and improves accessibility and social cohesion.

The definitive approval of the informative study will conclude the planning phase, giving way to the project and execution of works by Adif, with no date foreseen.
