The drafting of the projects for the new Chamartín extension has been awarded

.

Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has awarded a 20.47 million euro contract to draft the construction projects for the new extension of Madrid Chamartín Station.

The contract involves developing the “Chamartín Ecosistema Abierto” project, the winner of the international tender called by Adif AV, within the framework of developing the Madrid Nuevo Norte plan (former Chamartín Operation).

The transformation includes three significant actions:

  1. The construction of a new 35,500 m² North terminal, with space for High Speed and Cercanías passengers.
  2. The existing building will be extended to the east (which will become the South Terminal), and six new high-speed tracks will be added from 26 to 31.
  3. A corporate building for Adif and Adif AV, accompanied by an integrated car park.

These works, designed to be carried out in phases, will minimise the impact on rail service.

The project aims to double high-speed capacity and improve multimodal connectivity, with an overall investment of more than 540 million euros.

In addition, sustainability is prioritised through renewable energies and water reuse systems. The station, which will be the largest in Europe in terms of number of tracks if we count the 9B and 10B stations, aspires to become a strategic urban and architectural axis, key to the development of the north of Madrid.
