Alstom has signed a 15-year contract to supply 35 Coradia Stream electric trains and maintenance services in Bulgaria.
It is the first order for electric trains for inter-regional services in two decades, and Alstom’s award marks its entry into the Bulgarian market as a rolling stock supplier.
The agreement, awarded to the BULEMU consortium (formed by Alstom and the local company RVP Invest), includes the manufacture of the trains for 452 million euros and the provision of maintenance services valued at 268 million euros. The manufacturer’s turnover is 600 million euros.
The new trains will have six cars and a maximum speed of 160 km/h. They will offer more than 320 seats and be 100% accessible thanks to their low floor. They will include digital passenger information systems, spaces for bicycles and pushchairs, USB chargers, and toilets adapted for people with reduced mobility.
This investment, part of Bulgaria’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, aims to modernise rail transport, improve service quality and reduce pollutant emissions, bringing the country into line with European standards for sustainable mobility.
