Alstom begins construction of FGC train maintenance workshop for the airport

.

Alstom Spain has started the construction of a new workshop in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda to maintain the ten trains that will connect Barcelona with the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport.

This service, operated by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), will begin to be offered between the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027, with a frequency of 15 minutes and a journey time of just over 20 minutes. It will be the first Spanish PSO service not operated by Renfe.

The workshop will occupy 3,500 m² and will have two maintenance tracks, auxiliary workshops, storage, offices and staff areas. In addition, an auxiliary services workshop and a rail connection with the Adif network will be built.

The project will be executed by Comsa and is part of the 177 million euros contract awarded to Alstom, which includes design, manufacture, and maintenance for 15 years.

During the visit to the facilities, Carles Ruiz, president of FGC, stressed that this service will improve sustainable mobility and position Barcelona among the best-connected airports in the world. For his part, Leopoldo Maestu, president of Alstom Spain, underlined the commitment to sustainability and operational excellence in Catalonia.
