The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has awarded, through Adif, the contract for drafting the project to renovate the 89-kilometre conventional railway section between León and La Granja, with an investment of 3.8 million euros.
This action is part of the development of the Atlantic Corridor and will involve the complete replacement of all the track elements, the optimisation of the layout, the reinforcement of bridges, viaducts, and the 13 tunnels along the route, as well as the improvement of the gauge and electrification.
The aim is to increase reliability and traffic capacity, as well as to promote freight traffic.
This award is in addition to the drafting of projects to modernise a further 147 kilometres of line 800 (León-La Coruña), between La Granja-Covas and Covas-Monforte de Lemos, bringing the total number of kilometres undergoing renovation to 236.
At the same time, work is being carried out to extend the sidings so that 750-metre trains can run at the stations of Astorga, Brañuelas, Albares, Ponferrada, Quereño, Villamartín de Valdeorras, and Pobra do Brollón.
In addition, progress is being made in improving other sections of line 800, such as the renovation and electrification of the Monforte de Lemos-Lugo section, the remodelling of stations, and the removal of level crossings.
