Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has approved the informative study for constructing a new high-speed train station at Girona-Costa Brava airport. The estimated investment is 126.7 million euros, and the station will be built on the extension of the Vilobí d’Onyar high-speed siding.
The project will be divided into two phases. When both are completed, the station will have four tracks and two 400-metre platforms for through traffic, plus two additional mango tracks and a 220-metre platform for shuttle services. To avoid conflicts, these tracks will be accessed by a 5.2 km branch line parallel to the current double track, including a flying junction.

To connect the station with the airport terminal, a 493-metre pedestrian walkway will be built.
The project includes a 250-space car park and is expected to attract some 3.1 million annual users. The Ministry argues that this initiative seeks to strengthen the region’s connectivity, promote sustainable transport and enhance synergies with Barcelona-El Prat airport.
