The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has obtained the approval of the Council of Ministers to tender for the construction of the Olmedo bypass railway embankment, with a budget of 38.4 million Euro (VAT excluded).
The Olmedo bypass, known as the Olmedo U, is an 8.2-km link connecting the Madrid-Valladolid and Madrid-Galicia high-speed lines. This connection will allow high-speed transversal journeys across the country’s northern half without passing through Madrid. In particular, it will provide a direct link between Galicia and Valladolid and, from there, with other capitals of Castilla y León, Asturias, Cantabria, Basque Country or France.
The project includes the construction of a 220-metre-long and 14-metre-high viaduct to cross the Adaja River and a 56-metre pergola over the CL-602 road. In its first phase, the bypass will have a single track but will be designed to allow for duplication in the future.
Funding for this project could come from the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
