The Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has announced the tendering of the contract for the construction of a new station in Totana, on the Murcia-Almería High-Speed Line (HSL). It will serve Cercanías trains on the Murcia-Águilas line, which will use this new infrastructure from the moment it enters service.
The new station, put out to tender for 9.4 million euros, will be located just 500 metres from the current station and will have a passenger building, two platforms, a car park and an access road with a cycle lane. In addition, it will be integrated into a surrounding area of more than 21,000 m2. These surroundings will have a green area and spaces that will promote local transport in the city and the region.

The design of the station, according to the Ministry, will take advantage of the difference in height of the new tracks to promote accessibility and the fluidity of passenger traffic. It will have a lobby and waiting area with natural light, thanks to a glass façade. In addition, turnstiles will be installed, one of which will be adapted for people with reduced mobility, a ticket sales area, a shop, toilets and technical facilities.
Outside the new Totana station, a road will be built with a cycle lane in both directions to access the station. In addition, a car park with 78 parking spaces will be created, almost twice as many as the current station. It will have space for parking bicycles and motorbikes, as well as a taxi rank and bus stop to facilitate multimodal public transport journeys.
This action could be co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
