FGV begins repair work on infrastructure damaged by the cold drop

The Metrovalencia network has suffered major damage between Sant Isidre and Picanya, affecting the València Sud workshops and command post.

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) has begun work on repairing the damage caused by the cold drop floods of 29 October in the València Sud facilities and on the section of Metrovalencia linking Sant Isidre and Torrent.

The first emergency contract, with a budget of 791,340 euros (VAT included) and a completion period of 30 days, includes cleaning work, waste removal, and fencing restoration in the affected areas.

The DANA has caused serious damage to the València Sud railway complex, the headquarters of FGV, leaving the Metrovalencia network’s only command post out of service. Without it, none of the metro and tram lines can be controlled.

As a first step towards restoring normality, FGV is setting up alternative command posts in the Machado workshops and another two in the Tarongers workshops for the metro lines.

For the tram lines, the company is preparing a command post at Alacant station. It is expected to be operational next week, enabling service to be restored on lines 4, 6, 8, and 10.

Serious damage to infrastructure in Paiporta and Picanya

Metro lines will return to normal in the coming weeks, except for the Sant Isidre-Castelló/Torrent section.

The València Sud station has been seriously damaged, as have several points on the track in the municipalities of Paiporta and Picanya.

In addition to the damage to the infrastructure and the control post, Metrovalencia has also suffered serious damage to equipment, machinery, tools and materials essential for the maintenance and operation of the railway service.

For the duration of the outages, the Generalitat has established alternative Metrobus services since yesterday 5 November.

As for the RFIG, so far only the Mediterranean Corridor service has been resumed, with medium-distance trains running between Valencia, Vinaròs and Tortosa, as well as Euromed and Intercity trains between Valencia and Barcelona. The LAV will be closed for 2 to 3 weeks. In Cercanías only lines C-5 and C-6 are in service.
