The ticketing platform Trainline has announced the purchase of Trenes.com, strengthening its position in one of the most dynamic markets for European rail liberalisation.
Founded in Barcelona in 2014, Trenes.com sold tickets to more than 350,000 users in 2024, while Trainline has 27 million users globally.
According to the company, the integration will give Trenes.com customers access to a more streamlined shopping experience and a greater variety of routes and combinations, thanks to Platform One, Trainline’s global technology infrastructure that connects more than 270 rail and bus operators.
The operation is pending approval by the CNMC, which must approve. Trainline seeks to broaden the user base and facilitate price and route comparisons, driving the modal shift to rail.
Trenes.com CEO Pere Sallent expressed his enthusiasm for the new growth stage with the British group. Financial details have not been disclosed, and the deal is expected to close in the coming weeks.
